B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) — General Overview

DBRANLU provides the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Degree Programme. The strong social, economic, political and cultural interface of law and the multidisciplinary learning in B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) prepares our students for an in-depth understanding of substantive and procedural law and governance in national and international contexts. The Programme is designed and upgraded regularly to suit the dynamics of a changing society and the globalized world. It is delivered interactively, with special attention to preparing students for the bar and the bench; development of critical legal thinking and advanced scholarly research skills remain the central pedagogic aspects.

This ten-semester, five-year degree course is meant for higher-secondary leaving talented young students aspiring to make a successful career in the field of law, offering an interdisciplinary understanding of law with Social Sciences and Humanities. This Programme follows the Semester System wherein Social Sciences subjects like Economics, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History, Political Science and Sociology are taught along with Law subjects in the first two years of study. From third year onwards, the curriculum comprises all Law subjects. All subjects are compulsory in the first three years; in the fourth and fifth year, students are offered specializations in six streams, viz., Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, International Law, Family Law, and Labour Law.

In addition, the University is focusing on other specific areas like Rent Laws, Taxation Law, Cyber & IT Law, Law and Agriculture, Environmental Law, Human Rights, Alternative Dispute Resolution & Legal Aid, Health Laws, Women and Law, Forensic Law, Banking Law, International Trade Law, Media and Law, Law of Insurance etc., including virtual/classroom teaching. Successful students are awarded the B.A. LL.B. (Honours) Degree with specialization. The teaching methodology is holistic and includes extensive and intensive classroom teaching with emphasis on participative practical learning. The courses include assignments, symposia, seminars, field visits and project works, designed to balance the requirements of society as well as industry with pragmatic professionalism and research-based teaching-learning inputs.
